Welcome to Sol Plaatje Residence – affectionately known as The Home of Responsible Minds.
As we begin a new academic year, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to you all. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning after a well-deserved break, I trust that you are ready for a year of growth, learning, and transformation.
Our residence bears the name of a true South African icon – Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje – a distinguished intellectual, journalist, novelist, linguist, and one of the founding members of the African National Congress (ANC).
His life’s work was deeply rooted in the fight for justice, the upliftment of African people, and the preservation of our languages and cultures. Living in a residence that carries his name is not just symbolic—it is a call to live responsibly, to think critically, and to strive for excellence in all that we do.
At Sol Plaatje Residence, we are more than just a living space—we are a community guided by the values of diversity, ubuntu, excellence, integrity, equality, environmental stewardship, and a shared commitment to social justice.
